Eleven Madison Park operators plan a fast-casual entry

The duo behind New York City’s acclaimed Eleven Madison Park fine-dining outpost are preparing to launch a new fast-casual concept with parallels to Jose Andres’ Beefsteak.

The venture, Made Nice, will feature seasonal and artisan ingredients at a price ranging from $10 to $15 a ticket, Daniel Humm and William Guidara told The Wall Street Journal

The pair stressed that their initial site, not far from Eleven Madison, will be conceived and developed as a restaurant, not as Unit 1 of a massive chain.

However, as alumni of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, they had exposure to a killer multi-concept fast-casual brand, Shake Shack, which USHG spun off in a stock offering earlier this year.  The original Shake Shack location is a truffle throw from the front door of Eleven Madison, which Meyer sold to them a few years ago.

Eleven Madison is regarded as one of the best and most successful restaurants in the country, with a three-star rating from Michelin.

Franchisors who want faster remodels should reach into their pocketbooks

The Bottom Line: Burger King is spending $550 million to get more of its restaurants remodeled, not counting its own upgraded restaurants. More brands should do this.
