(November 29, 2012)—US Foods, the largest privately-owned broadline distributor in the U.S., has opened their first CHEF’STORE in Charlotte, a wholesale, cash-and-carry food and restaurant supply store featuring an assortment of more than 4,000 pantry staples, specialty products and other items for chefs, restaurant owners and food industry professionals
“From fresh meats and produce to sauté pans and cutlery, CHEF’STORE is the one-stop source for everything,” said David Schreibman, executive vice president of strategy and business development, US Foods.
The 30,000 square-foot store employs about 30 people and membership is free.
“Our ZIP SCAN™ system keeps track of purchases as customers shop so they can quickly and easily check out without wasting time standing in line or even having to remove any products from their cart,” said Bob Stout, southeast region president, US Foods.
The company hosted a grand opening celebration on November 28 and 29 to introduce the store to Charlotte’s chefs. The events featured store tours and cooking demonstrations from Food Network Star finalists Malcolm Mitchell and Penny Davidi, along with local culinary stars, Chef John Morey, executive chef of the Carolina Panthers, Chef Jon Fortes, executive chef of Mimosa Grill and Zink American Kitchen and Chef Robert Marilla, culinary instructor at Central Piedmont Community College. Culinary students from the Johnson & Wales University also participated in the events to gain valuable hands-on cooking experience.
The company also has a Stay Cool™ program, in which CHEF’STORE provides complimentary freeze gel packs and offers cooler bags and other products to ensure proper food temperature when customers transport perishables.
