The expansion resulted in about 90 jobs over the past six months, raising employment at the local warehouse to 302 workers, said Rocco Alianiello, president of the Greensburg division of the Columbia, MD-based distributorship.
Alianiello said the expansion added 15,000-sq.ft. to the plant, which rests on eight acres and measures 335,000-sq.ft.
Alianiello said country's second largest distributorship, according to the 2006 ID Top 50 Report, needed to expand its warehouse and freezer areas after winning a non-commercial contract with Excela Health Care Systems, which he estimates will add about $50 million in new business. Excela Health, a not-for-profit healthcare group, operates Westmoreland, Latrobe and Frick (Mt. Pleasant) hospitals.
The executive said the local division has about 500 accounts in an area that covers southwestern Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio markets. He told reporters that company's Greensburg and Altoona divisions to rang up about $400 million in sales last year, split almost evenly, of which $85 million came from the healthcare sector.
