Compass Group Announces The Million Lb. Challenge

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 22, 2013)—On Earth Day 2013, Compass Group launched The Million Lb. Challenge, a company-wide commitment to reduce green-house gas emissions by one million pounds within the next six months.

Cafés that choose to participate will be challenged to implement just one simple practice in the way they manage their kitchen equipment. With enough participation, the company should be able to lose over one million pounds of CO2 emossions. Their goal is to help the environment while also reducing operational costs.

Compass Group runs dining operations at more than 10,000 schools, colleges and universities, corporations, hospitals and senior living centers, sports and entertainment venues and cultural institutions across the country. The company's Carbon FOODPrint web system allows chefs and managers to create customized strategies to reduce their operations' carbon footprints by decreasing waste disposal, and energy and water use.
