The Fatburger fast-casual chain is looking to open at least six franchised stores in Cuba as soon as it gets approval from the U.S. government, Fatburger CEO Andrew Wiederhorn said in his blog.
He revealed that the chain had reached out to “potential business partners” in the communist nation about four years ago.
Getting the needed permission to act on those conversations could take six months to a year, Wiederhorn wrote.
He views the weak state of the Cuban economy and the lack of disposable income there as the biggest hurdles in making a success of six to 12 Fatburgers.
