Subway scores high, Burger King tails in new consumer ratings

Subway’s sales and marketing difficulties haven’t turned off customers, with the chain bested only by Chick-fil-A in a new consumer rating of 19 restaurant chains by the overall experience they provide.

Finishing at the bottom of the new ranking from the Temkin Group consulting firm are McDonald’s and Burger King.

Chick-fil-A has topped the consumer-preference list in all five of the years it’s been compiled for fast-food restaurants. Pitted against all 294 of the consumer companies Temkin rates annually, Chick-fil-A would have finished at No. 3, the company said. Subway would have been twelfth.

The rating is based on surveys with 10,000 consumers, Temkin notes.

The list is based on an index in which a score of 70% is regarded as good and 80% is excellent. Of the 19 restaurant chains rated by the consultancy, only Jack in the Box and Hardee’s generated higher consumer ratings this year than they did in the last ranking. Jack in the Box’s score rose two points, while Hardee’s inched upward by one point.

Sonic’s rating dropped 10 points, Dairy Queen’s score fell nine points and Burger King’s declined eight points, Temkin said.
