McDonald’s is adding another item to its growing chicken lineup.

The Chicago-based chain is adding Sweet N’ Spicy Honey BBQ Glazed Tenders to its U.S. restaurants for a limited time starting next week.

The recipe takes the chain’s Buttermilk Crispy Tenders and tosses them in a honey barbecue sauce that is made with brown sugar and a variety of spices.

The LTO continues McDonald’s efforts in recent years to expand its chicken offerings as consumers continue to flock to restaurants that offer the protein. Chains such as Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s, Zaxby’s and others have flourished in recent years offering a selection of chicken sandwiches, tenders or both.

McDonald’s in 2016 bolstered sales of its Chicken McNuggets by removing artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. The chain last year introduced the Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, which sold so well the chain ran out of supply. And in January it introduced a Classic Chicken Sandwich with signature sauce and pickles on a steamed bun.

“We share our customers’ love of chicken,” Linda VanGosen, vice president of menu and brand strategy for McDonald’s USA, said in a statement. “A better McDonald’s means more chicken options and delicious new tastes.”

She said the company is “building on the success of our Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.”

McDonald’s has been working to generate more product news to increase its competitiveness in a difficult market. The company is testing a French Toast McGriddles breakfast sandwich in Minnesota, for instance.

The Bottom Line: Burger King is spending $550 million to get more of its restaurants remodeled, not counting its own upgraded restaurants. More brands should do this.
