Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sun Capital has been pretty quiet of late, making few moves to buy new concepts. Still, it remains a major investor in the industry.

The company, which was founded in 1995 and has invested in 350 companies since, has long been known for its portfolio of chains that includes Boston Market, Johnny Rockets, Friendly’s and Bar Louie. But in 2016, the company branched out, acquiring a small HuHot Mongolian Grill franchisee in Nebraska called Franchise Restaurant Concepts Group, with the goal of helping that operator acquire additional units across multiple brands to grow into a large-scale operator.

Sun Capital's restaurant holdings totaled $1.7B in U.S. sales in 2017, according to Technomic’s Digital Resource Library.
