ID NEWS: ASFSA debuts Internet vendor marketplace

The American School Food Service Association (ASFSA), Alexandria, VA, has launched CN Marketplace, a website that includes a comprehensive database of vendors to the school foodservice market.
Available at www.asfsa.org, the new resource is aimed to help school foodservice operators get up-to-date information about vendors, products and services, at the beginning of the bid process. The site also will facilitate development of "valuable relationships" with vendors, says ASFSA.
Currently, the database includes nearly 500 companies that are ASFSA patrons, including exhibitors at ASFSA's 2002 Annual National Conference. Non-member companies, too, can sign up to participate. ASFSA's goal is to expand the database to include more than 2,000 different businesses.
In addition to offering such features as multiple search options for product and company information, the site will showcase a "featured vendor" each month.

The Bottom Line: Burger King is spending $550 million to get more of its restaurants remodeled, not counting its own upgraded restaurants. More brands should do this.
