Kevin Martinez, the chef at Tokyo Cafe in Fort Worth, Texas, started by donating meals to industry workers who were laid off at the pandemic’s outset. But his mission quickly bloomed into a large-scale feeding operation for anyone who needed a meal. So far, Martinez and his crew have given away tens of thousands of free meals. Some 30 area restaurants donate ingredients and money to the Martinez-led operation each week. Each Sunday, Martinez distributes up to 150 care packages containing 12 meals.
