Songwriter Zak Wallace launched Local Green Atlanta as a food truck in 2018 and opened his first brick-and-mortar restaurant in 2019. The restaurant, with a menu of vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian fare, was Wallace’s way of combatting the lack of healthy food in some Atlanta neighborhoods. Early the pandemic, Wallace brought his food truck to neighborhoods, offering food pickups for quarantining diners. Later, he took the truck to feed first responders, as well as voters at polling places. Local Green also started a program in which people could buy meals for homeless people and the restaurant would match those donations one-for-one. Local Green now has two locations, and Wallace hopes to grow the restaurant concept to continue to provide high-quality food options in underserved areas.
