Like an Asian spring roll, these lumpia serve as great appetizers with Latin flair.
Ingredients
1/2 lb. ground pork
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, grated
1/8 cup soy sauce
2 1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 1/2 tbsp. garlic powder
1/2 tbsp. salt
1 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. scallions, finely chopped
1 16-oz. package spring roll wrappers
1 cup of water
2 cups canola oil for frying
1 bottle sweet chili sauce
Steps
- In bowl, mix ground pork, ground beef, onions, carrots, soy sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, salt, brown sugar and scallions.
- Place 2 tablespoons of meat mixture on bottom corner of 1 square spring roll wrapper; moisten top corner with water. Fold and roll bottom slightly, fold in side and then continue to roll until closed. Repeat until all wrappers are rolled.
- In pot, heat oil to 350°F. Slowly add 5 lumpias to oil and cook for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown. Repeat until all are cooked.
- Serve with sweet chili sauce.
