Operators continue to keep up with consumer demand to offer fresh food and explore more ways to keep it fresh. Freshness plays a significant role in consumer purchasing and their willingness to pay more for products that are fresh.
According to Technomic’s 2023 C-Store Consumer Marketbrief report, 65% of consumers said that freshness would influence their likelihood to purchase prepared food items. Additionally, 68% of consumers said they would be willing to pay a premium for fresh prepared food items. Similarly, with fresh beverages, 61% said they would most likely purchase prepared beverages if they are fresh, and 65% said they would pay a premium for them. And while this data relates to prepared foods at convenience stores, those attitudes carry over to restaurants, as well—according to Technomic’s recent Value and Pricing Consumer Trend Report, 69% of consumers say freshness is the most important attribute in creating a good value at restaurants.
For restaurant operators, ensuring freshness can be difficult—but there’s technology available that can help. TransAct Technologies’ BOHA! Terminal 2 printers and labels can encourage optimal freshness with features such as labeling, media management, task timers and checklists. With 61% of consumers feeling that companies should do more to help them understand “best before” and “consume by” terminology, according to a recent report from a digital innovation and consultancy group Capgemini Invent, BOHA! Terminal 2’s labeling system can meet consumers’ needs and make the back-of-house more efficient for operators. The terminal provides print date code, nutrition fact information, grab-and-go, prep and “use by” labels that can be printed fast in various sizes and formats.
BOHA! Terminal 2’s print technology with labeling software offers increased label width with the ability to print more label types, including dual-column, with a new max label width of 3″. It prints faster—a 47% improvement in print start time—and sharper, with label printing at 300 dpi to meet operators’ labeling needs.
By being able to print labels indicating freshness, restaurant operators can keep close tabs on all of their foods—including grab-and-go options as well as components prepped in the back-of-house—making “first in, first out” less of a guessing game for workers. And by incorporating labeling both in the back- and front-of-house, both operators and customers can feel confident that the food being served is at optimum freshness.
The BOHA! Terminal 2 has also been designed for back-of-house efficiency, with features such as flexible and customized task management, as well as integrated custom timers for any task, including cool downs and cleaning. It has an improved screen viewing angle for employees of all heights, and capacitive touch with higher resolution, brighter screens and faster touch response. Additionally, operators are able to make and deploy updates across all of their locations at the click of a button with BOHA! Terminal 2’s cloud management technology that also manages menus and analytics for ultimate visibility and control. In short, the technology can help restaurants streamline their operations—saving time and labor—while ensuring quality, cleanliness and safety.
Training is also simplified with the BOHA! Terminal 2. Operators can establish standardized training processes across all locations, and training videos can be viewed on BOHA! Terminal 2 devices, making it easier to onboard new hires and maintain standards. Employees are provided with unlimited access to training materials on a centralized viewing platform, which can be conveniently located at prep stations where crew members spend the majority of their work time.
For maintaining fresh, quality food, efficiency and great service, the flexible, user-friendly BOHA! Terminal 2 combines the newest print technology with labeling software in one centralized unit that meets operators’ needs for organization and consumer demands for freshness.
