The Kraft Foods IPO ranked among the 43 best performing new public offerings of 2001, according to The Wall Street Journal in a year-end roundup. The Northfield, IL, based foodservice supplier giant ranked number 42, with a gain of 5.81 percent in share price over offer price on its IPO date of June 13, 2001.

Several other foodservice-related companies made this list, including Aramark Worldwide, Philadelphia, whose share price was up 7.93 percent over its offering price on Dec. 11. This gain gave it the 40th position among top performers. Bunge Ltd., White Plains, NY, is No. 13, with a whopping increase of 50.94 percent since its Aug. 2 IPO; AFC Enterprises, Atlanta, is No. 14, with a 49.76 gain, and Peet's Coffee & Tea, Inc., Emeryville, CA, is No. 27, with a 24.50 percent price increase since its offering on Jan. 23.

SureBeam Corp., San Diego, the electronic pasteurization/irradiation provider used by a number of major foodservice manufacturers, also by the U.S. Post Office, was No. 43. Share price reflected a gain of 5.50 percent since a March 16 offering date.
