Given the number of restaurants consumers can choose from in any given market, it’s tough for any one concept to stand out from the rest. But for national brand partners looking to team up with a winner, Spurrier’s Gridiron Grill offers great potential.

At Spurrier’s, opening in summer 2020 in Gainesville, Fla., diners will have the chance to experience something unlike what other area eateries are offering up. The restaurant is opening in partnership with Coach Steve Spurrier, who won the 1966 Heisman Trophy as a college football quarterback for the University of Florida Gators and then spent a decade playing professionally in the NFL. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player, became a coach after he retired as a player and then was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach. His legacy is built into the restaurant—Spurrier’s Gridiron Grill, conceived in partnership with Svein Dyrkolbotn, a former Gator basketball player and principal of Viking Cos., a Gainesville-based real estate development firm, offers customers a dining experience they won’t find anywhere else, and for national brands looking for a restaurant to partner with, that’s a game-winning touchdown.

For area and regional players, the opportunity is big. “Spurrier’s will have one of the only rooftop bars in the city, and it’s in a prime location,” Dyrkolbotn said. The restaurant itself is located at Celebration Pointe, a new upscale development off of I-75, with more than 60,000 vehicles passing by daily.

With three private dining-room options and three bars that serve customers both inside and outside, the restaurant answers a need in the Gainesville community, Spurrier said. Spurrier’s Gridiron Grill not only is a place for diners to enjoy a great meal but also is a spot for Spurrier to display and share his trophies and memorabilia with the Gator nation.

A spacious place and great food

The 10,000-square-foot space includes two indoor-outdoor bars as well as a 5,000-square-foot rooftop bar space overlooking the Celebration Pointe Promenade and outdoor entertainment venue. It will serve food including polished American-casual menu items with innovative twists; vegan options; and some of Coach Spurrier’s favorite foods, such as avocado-topped burgers, grilled chicken and salads. The menu also includes desserts inspired by recipes created by Jerri Spurrier, Coach Spurrier’s wife—recipes that have been longtime favorites of former Florida players. A more casual menu will be available for rooftop patrons as well. Spurrier’s is perfect for just about any occasion: a quick bite to eat before seeing a movie across the street at one of the country’s top performing Regal Cinema theaters, a place to watch the game and more.

Nostalgic, comfortable and fun

Another big draw of Spurrier’s will be the nostalgia factor. Alongside displays of his achievements, the restaurant plans radio broadcasts from Coach Spurrier from within the restaurant, so Spurrier’s Gridiron Grill is the perfect setting for a sports superfan to sit down and enjoy a meal. Its location is convenient for anyone coming in for a game at the Steve Spurrier Stadium and for those who live and work in the area at companies such as UFHealth, the University of Florida, InfoTech and SharpSpring.

Local investment and partnership opportunities

“Spurrier’s Gridiron Grill is poised to capitalize on a community that not only shares a long history with Steve but is also underserved by unique restaurants. As the No. 1 county in Florida for biotech, and with new and long-established companies opening their doors in the city, Gainesville is growing at a pace twice the national average,” said Andrew Johnstone, director of operations for Spurrier’s. With numbers like that, local and nationwide brands have a big opportunity with Spurrier’s.

Spurrier added, “We’re very open to future locations in relevant, key markets.” Potential partners would benefit from the turnkey restaurant’s completely funded buildout. What’s more, Spurrier’s offers an ideal location, great food and a passionate, hungry fan base, making it the perfect opportunity for interested brand partners.
