Several sauces from around the world, including one from the Southeastern U.S., stand to become “the next Sriracha”—a widely used, globally inspired condiment or sauce. Take a look at these contenders.

Chamoy

Menu inspiration and examples:

  • Mad Taco in College Station, Texas, serves a cocktail called the Chamoy, made with chamoy syrup and Exotico tequila, garnished with a chamoy-chile gummy worm.
  • Add chamoy to Micheladas or Bloody Mary’s for a unique drink-menu twist.
  • Knott’s Berry Farm last year introduced a Mango Chamoy Icee, topped with tajin seasoning and served with a tamarindo candy straw.
  • Top Blackened Fish Tacos with Mango Chamoy Chutney, made with Pace Thick and Chunky Salsa
  • For a smoky, savory dish, serve Chipotle-Rubbed Roasted Chicken, Charred Corn & Chamoy Salsay
  • Foxy Roxy’s Chicken ’n Cone, a food truck in Tucson, Ariz., offers chicken wings flavored with chamoy chile on the menu.

 

Nashville Hot Sauce

Menu inspiration and examples:

  • Ladle Tomato Basil Soup into bowls and top with Nashville Hot Croutons for a spicy kick.
  • Twin Peaks recently introduced Fried Pork Rinds as a limited time offer, served with spicy Cajun rub and Nashville hot sauce.
  • Quick-service seafood chain Captain D’s recently introduced Nashville Hot Catfish, hand-breaded in the chain’s signature Southern-style breading and topped with its Nashville Hot seasoning.
  • Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews recently introduced as a limited time offer a burger called the Red-Eye Rambler, which includes a burger patty rubbed with brown sugar, black pepper and coffee, topped with Muenster cheese, candied bacon, a fried egg, Nashville hot sauce, crispy onion straws and Bistro Sauce on a toasted ciabatta bun.

 

Sambal

Menu inspiration and examples:­

  • Salad chain Chopt last year offered a Spicy Singapore Noodle Bowl, which included satay chicken, chilled rice noodles, pickled radishes, rainbow carrots, English cucumbers, spinach, purple cabbage and cilantro with chili-sambal vinaigrette.
  • Offer up a Crispy Thai Green Curry Chicken Sandwich, with a toasted brioche bun and sambal mayo.
  • Top Red Lentil Vegetable Soup with sambal for a spicy seasoning twist
  • Cheeseburger in Paradise last year introduced a Turkey Mushroom Burger, a mushroom-infused turkey patty topped with Swiss cheese, grilled onions, lettuce and sambal aioli.
  • At The Flying Fig in Cleveland, which focuses on local sourcing and sustainable farming, the restaurant last year introduced a vegan Tofu Bahn Mi Bowl, which includes hoisin glazed tofu, shredded vegetables, coconut jasmine rice, cilantro, and peanut sambal.

 

Tahini Sauce

Menu inspiration and examples:

  • Casual dining chain Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar offers a Housemade Veggie Burger Bowl with avocado, baby kale, black sesame seeds, marinated tomatoes, lentils, roasted red peppers, spicy carrots, lemon vinaigrette and tahini sauce on the side.
  • Flavor seekers will love a Moroccan Charred Cauliflower Bowl with Carrot Parsnip Sauce and Whipped Maple Tahini.
  • Hummus, a popular appetizer and shareable plate, often features tahini as a main ingredient. For a twist, offer Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with pita and sliced veggies.
  • Smoothie and salad chain Freshens last year introduced a Hummus Crepe, made with creamy hummus, cucumber, romaine, tomatoes, garlic and tahini sauce.
  • New York’s Nature Works Restaurant last year introduced a baked falafel burger with tahini sauce.
