Restaurant Depot LLC To Hire 38 for New Virginia Beach Store

VIRGINIA BEACH (Dec. 22, 2009)—A New York-based food and equipment wholesaler plans to hire 38 workers and open a restaurant supply store next year on Virginia Beach Boulevard, the city announced Thursday.

Restaurant Depot LLC spent $6 million to purchase an 89,000-square-foot building that previously housed Value City Department Store, city officials said.

The company, which is a subsidiary of Jetro Holdings Inc., will spend an additional $3 million to modify the building at 5112 Virginia Beach Blvd., near Witchduck Road, and plans to open the store by late summer, officials said.

Warren Harris, the city's economic development director, said the new store would help fill a void in the market for restaurants that need a local supplier of food and equipment.

U.S. Foodservice Inc., a major distributor of food and supplies to restaurants and institutions, announced last month it would close its Virginia Beach warehouse by the end of January.

The Restaurant Depot store will not be open to the general public, selling products only to businesses and individuals affiliated with a non profit entity.

The company, which operates 80 locations across the country, plans to open six new locations next year, according to a news release. Currently, the closest Restaurant Depot store is in Alexandria.
