Chevys Fresh Mex owner adds 2 more brands to portfolio

Xperience Restaurant Group acquired Rio Mambo Tex Mex and The Rim from RM Restaurant Group.

Xperience Restaurant Group, the owner of Chevys Fresh Mex, El Torito and other full-service Mexican concepts, is adding two more brands to its fold. 

The Cypress, Calif.-based company on Thursday said it acquired Rio Mambo Tex Mex y Mas and The Rim Scratch Craft Eats from RM Restaurant Group. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The two brands join Xperience’s 68-unit portfolio as the company looks to build a national footprint. 

Each of the new concepts has multiple locations in Texas. Rio Mambo specializes in Tex-Mex cuisine in a contemporary, relaxed atmosphere with restaurants in Burleson, Coleyville, Weatherford and Fort Worth.

The Rim serves homestyle American food and craft beer at its locations in Burleson and Waterside, which are known for their eclectic decor.

Xperience’s other brands are Sol Mexican Cocina, Solita Tacos & Margaritas, Acapulco, Las Brisas, Sinigual and Who Song & Larry’s. 

Last year, it opened new restaurants in Long Beach, Irvine and Anaheim, Calif.; Las Vegas; Chicago; and Orlando.

“We are honored to welcome [RM] founder, Brent Johnson and the Johnson family to our family of restaurateurs,” said Randy Sharpe, CEO of Xperience, in a statement. “We look forward to continuing the rich legacy of the Rio Mambo and The Rim restaurants and remaining highly engaged members of the communities in which they operate.”

The acquisition is Xperience’s first since 2019, when it bought sister concepts Sol and Solita.
