Caribou Coffee promotes its president to CEO

John Butcher takes on dual roles at the 420-unit coffee chain.

Minneapolis-based Caribou Coffee announced this week that its president will also serve as the company’s CEO.

John Butcher has been president of the 420-unit coffeehouse chain since joining the company in June 2017.

Former CEO and President Sarah Spiegel left Caribou Coffee for personal reasons, according to media reports.

"Since John joined our company, we've witnessed an increased focus on Caribou's people and culture, resulting in quarter-after-quarter performance gains and the highest guest satisfaction ratings we've ever seen at Caribou," Mike Tattersfield, chairman of the Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagels brands, said in a statement.

Before joining the coffee chain, Butcher spent 20 years in leadership roles at Target.
