Like margaritas and pizza before them, burritos are commemorated by an “unofficial” food holiday. This year, National Burrito Day falls on April 5, and chains that specialize in the Mexican-inspired favorite are treating customers to celebratory deals. Here’s what’s in store for burrito fans.
1. 2-buck burritos
On April 5, Jimboy’s Tacos is offering $2 bean-and-cheese burritos all day long. The chain is also encouraging guests to “eat like a food blogger” and take pics of its taquito burrito. The item, which is on Jimboy’s secret menu, features a hand-rolled burrito stuffed with an order of crisp taquitos.
3. With a side of chips …
To celebrate the holiday, Rubio’s Coastal Grill is offering any burrito on its menu for $5 with the purchase of a drink. The chain’s large selection of burrito fillings ranges from wild mahi mahi to grilled steak and chipotle chicken and ranch, all of which are served with a pile of tortilla chips.
4. … And a side of fries
Customers who take advantage of Del Taco’s special deal—the purchase of two classic burritos for $5—get a small order of crinkle-cut fries for free. No doubt in response to rival Taco Bell’s new Nacho Fries, Del Taco is promoting that it’s been pairing its entrees with fries for more than 54 years.
5. Rolling lessons
Qdoba is taking to Facebook Live to host a burrito-rolling demo on April 5. Attendees can join the 30-minute session at 10 a.m. PDT to learn the secret to rolling the perfect burrito. If hunger strikes, customers in Charlotte, Raleigh and Gastonia, N.C., can head to one of 14 Qdoba restaurants operated by franchisee QCarolina, where patrons who buy a drink will get a free 10-inch chicken burrito.
6. Eating to the music
Chronic Tacos teamed up with GoodKnocking Radio in Tampa, Fla., to give National Burrito Day a soundtrack. Fans can text GKHANGOUTS at 31996 to redeem an online coupon, then head to Chronic Tacos to attend a DJ-hosted event and enjoy some burritos.
