2016 Top 500: Sandwich chains

Subway foot-long Roasted Turkey sub sandwich

The sandwich menu category, which increased sales by 2.7% to $23.3 billion and unit count by 1.6% to 40,847, is a mixed bag of good news and bad news. While one veteran (Arby’s) has ignited a healthy uptick in sales, another (Subway) struggles with oversaturation. And gains by growth chains like Newk’s Eatery and Jersey Mike’s Subs only counterbalance the declines by Blimpie and Quiznos.
