McDonald’s take on a healthier breakfast sandwich

mcdonalds chicken sausage egg

After bringing back all-day breakfast, McDonald’s has been testing a new menu item—chicken sausage. While the patty first appeared on select menus in New England earlier this year, it’s recently been spotted in upstate New York as a healthy alternative for Egg McMuffins, in addition to the traditional bacon, ham and pork sausage choices.

It’s not the chain’s only attempt at health, especially as the increased breakfast hours have proved beneficial to traffic. McDonald’s is testing turkey sausage in a breakfast bowl and Greek yogurt as a higher protein alternative in parfaits in Southern California. Kale, too, has made an appearance in both salads and breakfast bowls in select markets.
