Papa John’s angles for Super Bowl viewers with BOGO deal

Papa John’s is appealing to football fans’ price sensitivity with a Super Bowl deal that rewards delivery customers with a free pie after the game.

Patrons who place an online order of at least $15 on Super Bowl weekend will get a chit for a free large pizza with three toppings, redeemable from Feb. 2 through Feb. 28. Papa John’s is introducing the offer via TV commercials starring Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana.

Papa John’s is offering the discount despite being the official pizza sponsor of the NFL.

The chain’s direct competitors are also sharpening their hooks for Super Bowl business. Domino’s announced earlier this week that it will enable customers who place a delivery order to track their pie’s trip from prep area to the patron’s front door via their smart TVs, so they don’t have to turn away from the game.

Pizza Hut is airing new commercials featuring the NFL celebrities Tony Romo, quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and Rex Ryan, next season’s coach of the Buffalo Bills.
