Buyers Edge Platform, a source of supply chain intelligence for restaurants, is buying a restaurant accounting company.
It acquired RASI—short for Restaurant Accounting Services Inc.—for an undisclosed amount. It’s the 12th acquisition since 2016 and second this year for Buyers Edge, which owns a variety of brands related to supply chain, procurement and data designed to help restaurants make smarter purchases.
RASI offers software for accounting, financial reporting, inventory and more, processing more than $2.9 billion in accounts payable for more than 2,000 clients annually. Buyers Edge will pair it with its other products to offer restaurants a more comprehensive back-office tool kit.
“Traditionally, restaurant software has been siloed into only performing one specific function, so the restaurants have been forced to piecemeal their tech stack with systems that don't connect efficiently and are not truly built with foodservice operations in mind," said Buyers Edge CEO John Davie in a statement. "The RASI software completes a major component in the Buyers Edge Back Office, which has been under development for many years."
Back-office restaurant software is having a bit of a moment: On Wednesday, another back-office software firm, MarginEdge, raised $45 million, and inventory management systems topped a recent list of restaurants' planned tech investments compiled by the National Restaurant Association.
That comes as restaurants look for ways to lower labor and other costs. Digitizing processes that have traditionally been done by hand could be one solution.
