California Pizza Kitchen offers dine-in guests a take-and-bake pizza deal

With consumers continuing to cook at home, CPK is not abandoning the meal kit idea. The chain is providing families with a quick, cost-effective dinner solution.

California Pizza Kitchen launched a Two Meal Deal Tuesday, offering dine-in guests its Take & Bake pizzas for $8 with the purchase of any entree. The unbaked pizzas normally cost $16.99.

CPK’s Take & Bake pizzas are sold fresh, not frozen, and are ready to eat after seven minutes in the oven. They’re available in nearly 30 varieties, including the chain’s signature Original BBQ Chicken Pizza. Customers can opt for a regular or gluten-free cauliflower crust.

Pizza kits and other family meal bundles rose to popularity during the pandemic when restaurants were closed for dining-in and home cooks were in need of quick dinner solutions. CPK, which originally introduced take-and-bake pizzas in 2019, is counting on that demand to continue as busy families juggle the return to school and offices.

“Our guests want the same high-quality California-inspired food they’d expect at one of our restaurants when they take home CPK, and Take & Bake delivers,” said CEO Jim Hyatt in a statement. “We think we’ve got the world’s best tasting take-home pizza and we’re excited to share it with our guests through our new Two Meal Deal promotional offer.”

California Pizza Kitchen filed for bankruptcy protection in July, 2020, but emerged from Chapter 11 in November of last year. In the months since, the chain has developed new menu items, including a plant-based BBQ Don’t Call Me Chicken Pizza. 

In recent months, the chain has been exploring an IPO or potential sale.
