KFC is bringing back its Double Down Sandwich. Yes, that one

The fast-food chicken chain said it would bring back the infamous bunless sandwich for four weeks starting on March 6.

Remember the KFC Double Down Sandwich?

The fast-food chicken chain said on Wednesday that it plans to bring the sandwich back for four weeks starting on Monday.

The bunless sandwich, which features two pieces of bacon, cheese and either mayo or spicy sauce between two pieces of crispy, white-meat chicken, debuted on the chain’s menu in 2010 and sold 10 million sandwiches in its first month. The chain brought it back four years later, but it has not returned to the menu since.

KFC is also adding a new Bacon and Cheese Chicken Sandwich—with a bun—that will also be available on Monday for a limited time.

The Louisville, Ky.-based chain is giving select customers access to the Double Down one day early. The first 2,014 customers who “pre-order” the sandwich on www.kfcdoubledowndrop.com will be able to get the sandwich on Sunday. Sign-ups will begin on Thursday.

KFC said customers have been “begging” for the sandwich’s return in the nine years since it was last on the menu.

“The Double Down is one of the most buzzworthy fast-food menu items ever,” Nick Chavez, CMO for KFC U.S., said in a statement. “After nearly a decade of people begging for its return, we’re embracing the chaos, bringing back our most iconic sandwich ever for just four weeks.”

KFC’s new sandwiches come as the chain has removed five items from its menu with plans to add others, either permanently or through limited-time offers such as these. The chain wants to focus more on boneless options such as sandwiches.
