The parent of the Famous Dave’s barbecue chain has hired finance veteran Jim Gilbertson as CFO, filling the vacancy left by the departure of Paul Malazita in November.

Gilbertson was CFO of Granite City Food & Brewery from 2007 to 2014. He has also led the finance departments of Bluespire Marketing, a technology marketing company, and RareEarth Naturals, a producer of aromatherapy products. All three are located in the Minneapolis area, the home base of Famous Dave’s parent BBQ Holdings.

“Jim’s depth and breadth of knowledge with public companies and acquisitions is the skill set we were looking for,” Jeff Crivello, BBQ’s CEO, said in a statement. “Jim has a great rapport and reputation within the community. He will play an important role as we execute our growth plan.”

Malazita left to assume a position at Target, the retailer based in the Minneapolis area.
