Group offers to help Starbucks workers kick out their union

The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation is also apprising baristas on how to stop being charged union dues without risking their jobs.

One Fair Wage and a Union says the association has undercut the safety of teen workers by lobbying for a loosening of child-labor laws. The charge was levied on the eve of the annual National Restaurant Show.

Employees of the Service Employees International Union say they intend to strike for higher wages. They also accuse the union of being guilty of what it has alleged Starbucks is doing.

The Senate committee he chairs will take up a bill next month to phase in the higher wage over five years. He did not mention what changes he might seek in the tip credit.

But the research was underwritten by the SEIU, which also backed the controversial Fast Act bill. Industry reps say the data has "zero credibility."

The study undercuts assertions that Starbucks Workers United was a grassroots reaction of frustrated baristas.

Workers at the original unit in Vermont say they'll ask for an election to be scheduled.

Workers at a warehouse for the chain's direct-to-consumer business have joined the Ironworkers Union.

Members of such groups as the Sierra Club and MoveOn are now pushing the baristas' cause, the union says.
