This full-service daytime concept was started by James Beard Award winner John Currence, chef-owner of independent restaurant City Grocery in Oxford, Miss. Big Bad Breakfast offers an extensive menu of breakfast favorites, some of which are Southern specialties with locally sourced ingredients. The restaurants also serve lunch, brunch and cocktails. Locations increased 50% year-over-year in 2022, with 18 now in business and three more opening soon—all in Southern cities. Sales grew 59% last year with limited hours of operation: 7 a.m.-2 or 2:30 p.m. at most units.
