San Diego’s Navy Medical Center is the latest home for a Wetzel’s Pretzels franchise.

Unlike other Wetzel’s Pretzels locations, this one is not open to the general public. Instead, it is part of the brand’s move to expand into nontraditional locations and flexible store formats—a plan that other quick-service chains, including Jersey Mike’s, are also embracing.

At Navy Medical Center, staff and visitors can purchase all of the brand’s signature items to grab-and-go. These include hand-rolled soft pretzels in several varieties, such as sour cream and onion, classic salt, cheese and almond crunch. Also on the menu are pretzel bites in assorted flavors, including pizza and cinnamon, as well as pretzel-wrapped hot dogs in full and mini sizes.

The newest unit is the fifth Wetzel’s location for franchise owner Eyal Reich, whose four other San Diego stores operate in more traditional footprints.

Wetzel’s has opened locations in a number of other nontraditional venues, including malls, outlet centers, food trucks, stadiums, convenience stores, Walmarts and transit hubs.
