From its beginnings six years ago as a sidewalk stand on the Jersey shore, Playa Bowls has grown to 120 stores. Founders Robert Giuliani and Abby Taylor, both avid surfers, are currently CEO and CMO, respectively. Playa Bowls plays off the popularity of the bowl format. On offer are several bases, including blends of acai, pitaya, coconut, kale or banana, topped with fruits, nuts, seeds and other plant-forward foods. Smoothies are made with similar ingredients. Recent additions are cold-pressed juices and specialty coffee drinks. Wellness and sustainability are a common menu theme.
