Gus’s, one of the original hot fried chicken concepts, fueled its growth by trading on a 1953 family recipe. The menu star is the signature fried chicken, but Gus’s is also known for its Southern-style sides and pies. Service is fast casual, but decor is homey, with tables covered in checkered cloths. The restaurant has now expanded beyond its Memphis roots to 25 locations, extending to Texas, Michigan, Missouri, Maryland and California.
